CNC Machining Tolerances

The general tolerances of CNC machining parts can be achieved up to +/- 0.005″ or +/- 0.127 mm in accordance with ISO 2768 when cutting metals, and for plastics, it is usually two times that. Below is a table of some specific tolerances and size limitations, but the final tolerance depends on material, technique and drawing.

Maximum Part Size22 in. x 14 in. x 3.75 in.559mm x 356mm x 95.3mm
Minimum Part Size0.25 in. x 0.25 in6.35mm x 6.35mm
Tolerances+/- 0.005 in.+/- 0.13mm
RadiiSharp inside corners on a part will be radiused (rounded) as a natural result of the CNC machining process. Resulting radii will be identified on your quote.
Text

Plastic and soft metals: Minimum width of 0.018 in. (0.457mm), depth of 0.0118 in. (0.3mm). Example text size would be 16 point Arial Rounded MT font.

Hard metals: Minimum width of 0.033 in. (0.838mm) and depth of 0.0118 in. (0.3mm). Example text size would be 22 point Arial Rounded MT font.

  • Maximum part size varies by material. View this table to see a complete listing of our maximum part sizes.

What is CNC Machining?

CNC machining refers to a series of precise machining processes controlled by the computer numerical control system, There are many types of CNC machines. Standard CNC machines include 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis milling machines, cnc lathes, and routers.

They all use a computer controlled machine tool to remove extra material from the workpiece. Because of this computer control, CNC machining is much faster, more precise and  accurate than traditional machining.

Why choose our CNC machining services?

At LORI, we specialize in precision CNC machining  for complex and non-standard components. Working with us can provide you with the highest precision CNC technology and incredible medium and high volume production efficiency.  Your cnc machining parts will be ready in 15 days, whether they involve standard manufacturing or complex geometric shapes with strict tolerances.

We have a full line of 3, 4 and 5 axis machining, lathe, milling machine machining centers to provide precision CNC machining services for a wide range of plastic and metal parts, and can handle small and high volume cnc machining, small and large size CNC machining.  CNC machined parts are manufactured to a standard tolerance of +/-0.005 ". Tighter tolerances can be as high as ±0.001 mm.  Secondary operations such as tapping, marking and finishing are available on request at an additional charge.

We also offer a variety of additional services to make your prototypes and production pieces look more perfect.  Offers polishing, custom coating, anodizing and other finishing options.  If your component is not related to the overall appearance of the assembly, you may choose to save money by not doing additional finishes.  Want to speed up the manufacturing of prototypes or parts?  Upload your 2D and 3D drawings, as well as materials, finishes and quantities.  Get instant quotes now!  You can also send the RFQ directly to sales@lory-cn.com.

CNC Machining FAQs

Lori was established Shenzhen, China in 2008 and has become the fastest manufacturer in high precision production custom part and prototyping manufacturing on demand for many fields around the world.

1. How much does CNC machining cost?

The cost of your CNC machining projects is not fixed as it depends on the characteristics of your project such as the design, and tolerances. Machining times of the material to be used in the project also contribute to this pricing. For example, if you’re making a part that has a combined machining and material cost of $2 and a setup cost of $200, one part will cost $202. However, if you make 200 parts, each would cost $3!

2. What types of threading options are available?

We offer UNF, UNC, and metric threads for machining along with coil and key inserts (but do not supply or install the inserts). These are available on both milled or turned CNC parts

3. What is the maximum part size for CNC machining?

Lori can accommodate the prototyping and production of large machined parts, plastic or metal. Our maximum CNC machining build envelope is 2000 mm x 1500 mm x 300 mm — suitable even for large-scale parts such as furniture and architectural components.

4. What are the tolerances of machined parts?

We can provide critical tolerance according to your actual demand.

For CNC machining, we manufacture metal parts as per ISO 2768-m and plastic parts as per ISO 2768-c. Please note that the higher tolerance needed, the cost will be higher.
