The Factors that Affect the Cutting of Zinc Alloy Die Casting

With the continuous development of manufacturing technology, various new materials have been developed and widely used. Many of these new materials are difficult to process, such as zinc alloy die casting and composite materials. On the one hand, it greatly improves the performances of the products, and on the other hand, it also brings great difficulties to the machining and manufacturing. According to the characteristics of various difficult to process materials, it is of great significance to take corresponding measures to complete the task efficiently, low cost to meet the machining requirement and meet the needs of modern technology and industrial development.


The factors that affect the machinability of materials:

1. Strength and hardness

The higher the strength or hardness of zinc alloy die-casting material, the greater the cutting force, the higher the cutting temperature, and the greater the tool wear. In addition, when cutting hard materials, the blade contact length is short, the cutting force and cutting heat are concentrated near the cutting edge, and it is easy to flake or even collapse, especially the brittle tool materials such as carbide and ceramics. Therefore, the machinability of the material is poor.

2. Plasticity and toughness

The greater the plasticity and toughness of zinc alloy die-casting material, the greater the chip deformation, the more cutting heat generated, and the chip is easy to bond with the tool, which will aggravate the tool wear. However, if the plasticity and toughness of the workpiece material are too small, the blade-chip contact length will become shorter, and the tool will be seriously worn. Therefore, the workpieces with too large or too small plasticity and toughness have poor machinability.

3. Heat resistance

The better the heat resistance of zinc alloy die-casting materials, the higher the strength and hardness can be maintained at high temperatures.

4. Ability to scrape knives

The stronger the abrasion ability of zinc alloy die-casting material, the greater the tool wear, the worse the cutting ability.

5. Thermal conductivity

The smaller the thermal conductivity of zinc alloy die-casting material, the less easily the cutting heat is transmitted, the higher the cutting temperature, the more serious the tool wear, the worse the cutting processing ability.
