CNC machining in Nylon

Nylon, or polyamide (PA), is an engineering thermoplastic known for its outstanding mechanical properties and exceptional resistance to chemicals, thermal stress, and abrasion.

PA6,PA66,PA610 and PA12 Engineering Nylon Materials

Subtitle Description

Nylon (polyamide, referred to as PA) is a plastic composed of polyamide resins and is a commonly used thermoplastic material. There are many varieties of PA, including PA6, PA66, PA610, PA11, PA12, PA1010, PA612, PA46, PA6T, PA9T, and MXD-6 aromatic amides. Among these, PA6, PA66, PA610, and PA12 are the most commonly used. Nylon engineering plastics have a horny, ductile, bright surface and are typically white (or milky) or slightly yellow, transparent or translucent crystalline resins. They can be easily colored.

Engineering nylon is primarily used in the automotive industry, electrical and electronic industry, transportation industry, machinery manufacturing industry, wire and cable communication industry, and for daily necessities. It is used to manufacture various components such as bearings, gears, circular gears, cams, bevel gears, oil pipelines, oil storage tanks, protective covers, support frames, wheel covers, deflectors, fan housings, air filter housings, radiator water chambers, brake tubes, engine hoods, and more.

Engineering Nylon PA6,PA66,PA610 and PA12 CNC Machining

Subtitle Description

Nylon engineering plastics show their diversified application potential and economic advantages in the field of CNC machining. As important members of the nylon family, PA6, PA66, PA610, and PA12 each demonstrate unique characteristics in CNC machining.

PA6, as a general-purpose nylon material, has excellent processing properties and cost-effectiveness. In CNC machining, PA6 materials are easy to cut, the processing speed is fast, and high precision and complex shapes can be achieved. Its strength and wear resistance also make it an ideal alternative to metal materials, especially for applications that require cost and weight reduction.

 PA6

PA66 is known for its high strength and high temperature-resistant grade. In CNC machining, PA66 materials maintain stable machining properties and retain their mechanical properties even in high-temperature environments. This makes PA66 ideal for manufacturing high-performance parts and assemblies, especially where high temperature and strength are required. Due to its excellent properties, PA66 can replace some traditional metal materials while reducing manufacturing costs.

PA66

PA12 is known for its excellent oil and chemical resistance. In CNC machining, PA12 materials are able to maintain their unique properties and are easily machined into a variety of shapes and sizes. This makes PA12 ideal for manufacturing parts that need to work in harsh environments, such as automotive fuel systems and chemical equipment. The excellent properties and relatively low cost of PA12 make it an economical alternative to metal materials.

PA12

PA610 is preferred for its excellent wear and chemical resistance. In CNC machining, PA610 materials can easily cope with complex machining requirements and maintain stable performance and dimensional accuracy. Its wear and corrosion resistance make PA610 ideal for parts that require prolonged use and exposure to chemicals, such as seals and pump parts. Similarly, PA610 can also be used as an alternative to metal materials, providing higher cost performance.

Applications of Machining Nylon

Subtitle Description

Machined Nylon PA6 Parts

PA6 is a translucent or almost bright opalescent crystalline polymer. The melting temperature is lower than PA66,

and the processing performance is better than other PA. The finished parts have the characteristics of high impact

strength rate, load dispersion, good softness, thermoplasticity, light weight, good toughness, resistance to

cyclohexanone and aromatic solvents and good durability. Suitable for use under light load conditions, with good

wear resistance, self-lubrication and solvent resistance. Good vibration and noise reduction ability.

Typical applications include:

  • Sensor housing: Used to protect and secure the sensor.

  • Gear: Used to transmit power in mechanical transmission.

  • Bearings: Support rotating parts to reduce friction.

  • Gasket: Used to fill the gap between two objects to increase tightness.

  • Slider: Used in mechanical equipment for guiding and sliding.

  • Fixture: Used to hold the workpiece in place for processing or assembly.

  • Bracket: Used to support and secure other components.

  • Seals: Used to prevent liquid or gas leakage.

Machined Nylon PA66 Parts

Compared with PA6, PA66 is more widely used in the automotive industry, instrument housings and

other products requiring impact resistance and high strength requirements. PA66 is the highest mechanical

strength and most widely used variety in the PA series.

Typical applications include:

  • Drive shaft: Transfers torque in mechanical equipment.

  • Connector: Connects two or more components.

  • Valve seat: Used to control fluid flow.

  • Fasteners: such as bolts, nuts, etc., for connecting and fixing parts.

  • Insulating parts: Used in electrical and electronic equipment to prevent leakage of current.

  • Shield: Protects equipment or components from external damage.

  • Fixture: Used to hold the workpiece in place during manufacturing.

  • Pump parts: such as pump impeller, pump shell, etc., used to transport fluid.

Machined Nylon PA610 Parts

PA610 is easy to form, the performance is between PA6 and PA66, the hardness is higher, and the wear resistance

is slightly worse than PA6. The biggest feature is that the water absorption changes very little, the size is more stable,

and it can replace PA6 and PA66 to make precision size parts.

Typical applications include:

Precision gear: used to transmit power in mechanical transmission.

Aircraft interior parts: such as control panel, seat parts, etc.

Seal ring: prevents leakage in high pressure or high temperature environments.

Bearing sleeve: used to enhance the performance and life of bearings.

Pipe connectors: Used to connect pipe systems.

Shield: Protects equipment or components in harsh environments.

Insulated parts: Prevent leakage of current in avionics systems.

Bracket: Used to support and hold aviation components.

Machined Nylon PA12 Parts

PA12 is a good electrical insulator and, like other polyamides, will not be affected by moisture.

It has good impact resistance mechanical and chemical stability. However, PA12 has no resistance to strong oxidizing acids.

Typical applications include:

Cable sheath: Protects the cable from external damage.

Insulating parts: Used in electrical and electronic equipment to prevent leakage of current.

Conduits: Used to transport liquids or gases.

Medical equipment parts: such as surgical instrument handles, catheters, etc.

Sliding parts: Used in mechanical equipment for guiding and sliding.

Fasteners: such as bolts, nuts, etc., for connecting and fixing parts.

Seals: Prevent leaks in medical equipment and pipes.

Fixture: Used to hold the workpiece in place during manufacturing.
